The Roma Communities Non-Governmental Organisations Council (RMORK) is shocked and outraged over the recent attacks against Roma in Hungary, RMORK chairman Ladislav Richter said at a press conference on Thursday in Bratislava.
He described the November 19 attack against a Roma family involving a hand grenade in Pecs (Hungary) as an act of intolerance. In this most recent attack a married couple died and their three children were injured in their home.
In connection with this violence, RMORK has written a letter to Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany condemning such unacceptable demonstrations of hatred and drawing attention to the fact that these attacks are not infrequent.
In the letter, the Council asks Gyurcsany to thoroughly investigate murders motivated by racism, and to condemn them and all other such acts, and it says that attackers should be strictly punished as soon as possible.
